 Interviewed by Jennifer Lariviere
JL: How different is the crowd's support from show to show (and from US to Canada) especially on a tour as big as The Warped Tour you are currently on?
RJA: Thankfully enough, our crowds have been consistently positive and extremely supportive in the towns we have played across the US, and we’re really looking forward to playing Canada, since we haven’t had that opportunity yet.
JL: Describe your band's creative process on how you go about writing and composing your songs?
RJA: Recently, we’ve been doing most of our writing as a group rather than as individuals… I guess we feel five heads are better than one.
JL: Face Down, the first single from your new record, lyrically and visually deals with the issue of domestic violence and really makes an impact on the listener and viewer. Is this a cause the band feels a strong connection to, and are there any other social or political agendas the band will be addressing in the future?
RJA: The lyrics to Face Down, as well as all of the songs on our album, are simply true events or situations that I, or someone close to me, has experienced or observed thus far in life. It is obviously very personal, but everyone in the band feels it’s pretty important to get it out there and talk about it.
JL: Do you find that the music scene in Florida, where you started out, has changed much over the past couple of years, and if so, how?
RJA: Sure, it has changed as much as anything else does with time, mainly just in terms of the sound of music in general, but believe me, the scene in Jacksonville, FL is very much alive and well.
JL: Do you feel that your young age puts you in a more advantageous situation where touring, money and exposure is concerned?
RJA: Well honestly, it is what it is (being young, I mean), and I guess all that really matters to us is being able to play music for a living. We are extremely grateful for this opportunity and I think that being young, if anything, gives us an advantage in making modern music that is also young and fresh sounding, and that may be a little different than what is currently out there.
JL: What is the band planning to do on album release date to celebrate the launch of your debut disc on July 18? Any special event planned?
RJA: Yes, definitely. We just played a free show on July 14th for about 1500 hometown fans in Jacksonville. Basically, we wanted to show our love and thanks to all of our families and friends who have stood by us and who continue to support us. It was amazing!
