Opening band PAPER LIONS from P.E.I were a very energetic radio-friendly pop act. The band walked off stage at one point allowing the drummer some time for a sick solo; starting off drumming with his hands, adding a 1st stick, a 2nd, a 3rd, then finally a 4th! Quite an impressive feat while remaining competent on the drums!

CAKE came out, singer with a coffee cup in hand, full beard, very relaxed, low lights, setting the mellow tone for the show. CAKE started off with the cover, "Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town" from the 'B-Sides and Rarities' album confirming the very chillaxed but intimate vibe. The band played some older radio songs and tried out a few new tunes in between. From Frank Sinatra to The Distance, the fans were very content. CAKE also addressed the audience stating, "Thanks for not forgetting who we are" re-confirming that this show was definitely for their die hard fans.

A sapling was on stage throughout the whole show, which CAKE explained was donated by Cramer nurseries in DDO. The band decided that if any one person could guess what type of sapling it was, they would win the tree! After several guesses, a woman finally got it: ASH tree. She promised the band that she would plant it, and send in a picture every year of the tree growing and her shrinking next to it. The pics will be available on CAKE site www.cakemusic.com

Thanks to Arlene at Rubin Fogel Productions for the access and to Rob L and Martin C for checking it out on my behalf.
