Since the early 90’s CAKE have been rockin’ the world with their extremely distinct sound. The CAKE brand is so unique that they have been the only band of their particular style to win platinum records and maintain a strong dedicated following for all these years.
With the release of ‘I Will Survive’ from album “FASHION NUGGET” in 1996, CAKE exploded into radio stations winning over new fans who adored the CAKE cover of Gloria Gaynor’s super hit.
Keeping in line with CAKE’s strong ability to re-vamp great hits, CAKE have decided to release “B-SIDES AND RARITIES” (Upbeat Records); a compilation of deliciously picked and mixed tunes, originally sung by greats such as, Frank Sinatra, Barry White, Buck Owens, George Jones, Ozzy Osborne, and Kenny Rogers. Songs all pay homage to the original singers/songwriters, but with an awesome makeover. CAKE’s Vincent DiFiore adds, “These songs were recorded at times when we wanted to extend our idea of what the band could do stylistically. It was good to see that the recordings worked as a collection, and I’m glad we can offer it to listeners.”
This entire album gets me giddy, there’s no other word to describe how listening to it makes me feel! From ‘Mahna, Mahna’, ‘Strangers in The Night’ and ‘Never, Never Gonna Give You Up’ this disc rocks like no album ever before it. Keeping with a CAKE-like flavor this album makes me hungry for more! They also popped in a live version of one of my CAKE original fave’s “Short Skirt, Long Jacket”. This disc is definitely gonna play hard in my car all summer long! Albums can be pre-ordered online @ www.cakemusic.com/rarities.html
“B-SIDES AND RARITIES” is a gift in itself; the limited edition comes complete with a collectible “scratch and sniff” CD package including scents of fresh red cut roses, brown leather, fresh cut grass and purple grape. Album also includes a live bonus track “War Pigs” featuring Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips. CAKE are also concerned with the environment, so the booklet was manufactured using 100% recycled paper and vegetable dyes, doing their part to help make a difference!
CAKE also plan to release “Live At The Crystal Palace” Fall ‘07 and their 6th studio album due in early ’08 also off their own label Upbeat Records.
