Guilty Spark @ Café Campus February 11, 2006

review by Sonny Rosati

It started out like any other Saturday night, I woke up brushed my teeth and headed out to the club for a night of music and fun. The venue for the evening was Petit Campus; the band was Guilty Spark. After checking out their website www.guiltysparkmusic.com, I was under the impression that I was going to see a regular punk band.

On Saturday February 11, 2006, I was privileged to witness the birth of a new musical sound. Guilty Spark combines the raw energy of the Sex Pistols with the pulsating sexuality of Metallica. The hard driven songs are already radio friendly, I even found myself humming along to the choruses!

What sets this group apart from other punk/hardedge bands is the very high level of musicianship. These cats can flat out play. They could easily be a house band for a Hard Rock Club, or a backup band to big name artists. I would like to make a special mention of Kevin McKay, who might be one of the best drummers I’ve ever seen in a local band.

Many opening acts can have difficulty playing to the headliner’s crowd, but Guilty Spark completely rocked the house. The audience was dancing and cheering, while requesting more and more songs. Guilty Spark finally relinquished the stage but not until after a three song encore.
