THE MISSION DISTRICT INTERVIEW
Fall 2009

interview by
Jennifer D. Lariviere

MMS recently had the opportunity to sit down and chat with The Mission District. Here is some of our interview with the band.

MMS: Are you excited for a homecoming show?
MD: Yes very much so, it was awesome!

MMS: Can you compare living in London vs Montreal? What impact did living in London have on this album?

MD: Living in London was great, it was such an exciting city and i think some of that excitement spilled into the record.

MMS: You claim the London scene is, filled with "People {who} are so open-minded and listen to all these different genres of music,". What is your take on the Montreal Scene?

MD: The Montreal music scene is more dominated by indie rock bands, but its still cool. I guess we just fit more into whats going on in the UK right now, as its more pop and more "now" than Montreal currently is. Although our fans in Montreal are amazing and so enthusiastic!

MMS: What makes this album 'Youth Games' so distinct to Mission District?

MD: Its so distinct to us because its a reflection of all the music we grew up on as kids and reflects who we are as people.

MMS: How was your experience working with producer Andy Green (Keane, Go: Audio, The Feeling) and mixer Mark Needham (Metro Station, The Killers)?

MD: It was awesome. Andy had this great studio in the British countryside and allowed us to escape the city and immerse ourselves in the music... He's an amazingly talented producer and helped bring out the best in us.

MMS: How awesome does it feel to have celeb blogger Perez Hilton describe The Mission District as "a beautiful hybrid of California and British pop rock."? Does this affirm to you that you've made it as a celled?

MD: Hahaha nope, but it was flattering for sure!

MMS: Is TMZ next?

MD: Lol! Haha i hope!

MMS: How much of an impact have your internet networking tools been on your level of exposure?

MD: Its been hugely important, its how we get the word out about everything and its how we've built our community!

MMS: Favorite city to play? all of them! City with the hottest chicks?

MD: Montreal and London

MMS: Any upcoming TV appearances?

MD: Don't know off hand.

MMS: Plans after Canadian &UK tour are done?

MD: Tour more!

MMS: Anything you would like Montreal to know about Mission District?

MD: We love our crazy Montreal fans! you guys are amazingly nuts!
