Dodging the usual neo-hippies and cigarette hobos encrusting the Mile End area, you would have found shelter at The Green room that night in good company. It was a quiet evening of intimate music with two promising Canadian emerging artists. Valery Gore opened the night with a solo act through her enchanting style of piano storytelling.
With a few quirks and giggles, Valery was warmly received by a very quiet and attentive crowd.
Peter Katz followed with an entertaining set of acoustic pop. Seeing that no body surfing action was about to erupt, the crowd was kept very entertained by his humoristic segways. Accompanied by a tight band providing enthusiastic punches, the songs flowed whimsically one after the other, with a nice variation in plot and style. If it would have been another one of those "Here are 10 fucking love songs about my Ex.." nights, I would have left long before my beer was done.
Peter Kats is a Montreal native ... who is now established in Ontario.
