After 2 years of solid touring Canada, the States and the UK, Sam Roberts got quite the rock star welcome from the sold-out crowd for this, the last show of his tour before a well deserved rest and return to the studio. Forever faithful to the 70s dirty rocker look (judging from the multiple squealing girls, this look is a winner), Sam & the gang took over the giant stage to duke out all the old favourites and some pretty good new material as well. The high point of the show was certainly ³Where Have All the Good People Gone?², but I loved that openers Matt Mays & El Torpedoes rejoined Roberts on stage in the encore for a smokin¹ jam 2 bands and 5 guitars going at it at the same time. This is what rock and roll is about, kids!
Nova Scotia¹s best rockers (after Sloan) Matt Mays & El Torpedoes warmed up the crowd nicely thank you, their Neil Young-inspired ditties a perfect match to Sam¹s band (musically and fashion-wise - guess that bearded lumberjack look is what¹s hot in T.O. these days). With smokin¹ tunes and a triple guitar threat, Mays is one to keep an eye out for in the coming years.
