Regardless of the media hype, it was obvious that this year’s Springsteen concert would be one you wouldn’t want to miss – Springsteen fan or not! This became instantly apparent when one of my coworkers, a well-known radio jock who’s been around the industry for just over 30 years, expressed deep regret over not being able to attend the concert.

As I took my place on what would normally be “nos glorieux’s” center ice, I couldn’t help but feel at home as the crowd – young and old – filled the amphitheater to the brim. Although technical difficulties were almost inevitable with a concert this size, the crowd found ways to keep patient; namely by starting a tidal wave which had no end in sight. The lights dimmed and figures made their way onto the stage. It was only a matter of seconds before the Center was flooded in lights and Springsteen in the company of Steven Van Zant and The E Street Band began their musical parade.

The whole show consisted of a tirade of non-stop power ballads that had the crowd dancing and singing the whole night. Springsteen began with some of his newer work including the Grammy-nominated “Radio Nowhere” (off his 2007 “Magic” Album), however the true crowd pleasers remained the classics such as “Born to Run” and “Because the Night Belongs to Lovers”. It seemed as though “The Boss” was unstoppable that night adding more and more energy to every next song, while interlacing brief updates on his work and family life. Much to the dismay of his fans, after just over 2 hours of hits, it became apparent that the show was coming to an end as Springsteen pulled out the big guns and had the crowd sing along to “American Land”. Although he did miss out on favourites such as “Born in the U.S.A." the crowd could not have asked for more as they took home a piece of rock and roll history.
