Slave to the SQUAREwave, The Fixx @ Club Soda, Thuesday November 11th 2003
review by Lex
The invasion of the SQUAREwave has begun!
Back in montreal again this year for another mesmerizing performance,
Slave to the SQUAREwave bring out the best in both entertainment and musical
ecstasy. They opened up the night with a theatrical intro true to the cult
classic rock operas. The audience was dazzled at the inhibiting stage
presence of front man Colin Troy. You can't help but feel that they take you
on an irresistible time warp trip, a true marriage of
visual and audio experience. Their unique blend of retro techno groove
meets modern rock sound definitively sets them apart from today's many
cookie-cutter rock bands.
If you're thinking about sitting down and having
a quiet night with these guys, then forget it. Their heart thumping beats
will get you off your seats and dancing in seconds. The band understands that it
takes more than just a solid drummer, an adept guitarist, a grooving bass
player, and a complimenting keyboard player to make an impact. It takes the
power to reach out to your spectators and grab them by their essence and make
them feel the experience, and Slave to the SQUAREwave is the full package.
From Toronto, a city that seems to be bombarded
with conformity and normalization, Slave to the SQUAREwave emerges to be a band
that feels right at home here in Montreal with their unique sense of
style. A good tip for anyone going to see these guys, don't blink, you may
miss something!

After that exhilarating ride, the crowd was more
than ready to receive the legendary FIXX. It was a treat to see these guys
in an intimate show at Club Soda. It was also a great opportunity for long time fans
to interact with them as they rolled out new tunes and classic tunes from their
ongoing success spanning over two decades. Cy Curnin's voice still rings as
delightful as it did when these pioneers first swept the airwaves in the 80's.
One great thing definitively leads to another :)
