The Whereabouts, Ryan, Broken Pictures @ Le Swimming, Saturday November 22 2003
review by Lex
Let your inner child out! Is it possible to be mature and still have fun like
you're a kid again? YES! The Whereabouts certainly brought out the happy
pappy in everyone at their electrifying show on November 22 at Le Swimming. The
soulful melodic sound delivered by a vivid power rock ensemble is the perfect setting
for a fun Saturday night. Their music just gives you the right dose of
adrenaline to have all those joyful memories infiltrate your brain again as you
watch lead singer Andrew MacNeill take on the crowd. They prove that you
don't have to have a heavy distorted sound to make a heavy impact on
people. With their light guitar sounds and heavy attack on the rhythm,
they crank out pop rock music with a bite. Patrick Curley did a great job on
back vocals as well as supporting the band with his guitar playing. The set ran
through at a pretty fast pace, keeping everyone's mojo alive, leaving very
little dead time.
After listening to their incredibly well recorded
CD, I realized that they were able to redeliver the "feel" of each
song as originally listened on the album. This is something that few bands
with professionally recorded demos are able to execute. It didn't matter if you
felt more comfortable sitting or standing to enjoy their music that night, you
just can't help but to bob your head and release a quirky smile repetitively.
Thank you Jackie for the CD!
