ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA - TOUR DE FRANK METROPOLIS JULY 31ST

review by Jennifer Lariviere

Dweezil Zappa has spent much of the last year in deep study of his father’s music in order to produce and perform the best Zappa tribute/mélange ever. Keeping the eccentric man’s spirit alive by attracting new fans and pleasing the die-hard enthusiasts.

Dweezil explains, "I actually played along with Frank's guitar solo from the original 'Hot Rats' master tapes. He had dedicated that album to me since he was working on that around the time I was born. It's cool to hear us playing together note for note in a stereo time machine."

Zappaphiles were certainly not disappointed with this refined education, as ZPZ kicked ass for several hours, giving fans a much-needed dose of Zappa tunes. In a musical drug-like trance, the crowd was hooked, as they absorbed the experience –took it all in – into the very fiber of their being.

Family Trust consists of some last tour players; Aaron Arntz, Scheila Gonzalez, Pete Griffin, Billy Hulting, Jamie Kime, Joe Travers, and special guest Ray White on guitar and vocals. Ray White graces with his presence after having spent many years on tour with Frank, a seasoned veteran of Zappa’s music, he rocked as hard as the first day he ever played with the master himself.

Following ZPA’s 30 North American tour date, they head off to Europe to thrill the masses in over 17 cities through October 07.
