Anyone going to the SOCAN Music Industry Seminar next month?

Just got the invite in the mail today. Looks interesting and cheap for what is being offered.

Event hosted  by Patrick  Marsolais  of FLASH television  show.

April 22 2006  10am - 5pm

10am WORKINGS OF THE CANADIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY with Michel Normandeau (founding member Harmonium)
11am FINANCIAL SUPPORT(Musicaction and FACTOR)
12:30 - LUNCHTIME
2PM THE ARTIST MANAGERS ROLE with Martin Leclerc (Lynda Lemay) and Jeffrey Remedios (Feist)
3PM RECORD DISTRIBUTION with Georges Tremblay (DEP Distribution) + Annie Massicotte (Local Distribution)
4PM GUEST PERSONALITY (Donald Tarlton)
5PM COCKTAIL RECEPTION

There is a registration form and does not indicate number of guests or anything else. Chances are it is only for SOCAN members as you have to mail in your form with payment.
$20 tax included.

Like a premie, had to pull out.
Cie sending me to Vancouver during that time so will extend my stay there and enjoy the mountains.

These events have good intentions, but I'm sure Brian Adams royalty checks could have covered the admission...

Keep in mind, what worked for someone 20/30 years ago, may not work for you tomorrow.

Where as you'd get a helpful tip here & there, there's lots of books that you could keep, for the same price with more info. A good one is: "Confessions of a Record Producer" by Moses Avalon.

If you'd bump into some of these guys in a bar, they're usually happy to talk to you on a 1 to 1 basis. Just find out where they hang out

Into: LedZep, Floyd, U2, Sting, Radiohead, Hendrix, Santana, Robin Trower, B-Adams, Bonjovi, Journey, Heart, Garbage, S-Crow, M-Etheridge, Coldplay, Pink, Yes, Jeff Beck, Prince, Miles Davis, Vivaldi - Can sound like the CD & get on stage with minimum rehearsal.
