Natasha Kanapé Fontaine and Patrick Watson to play virtual fundraiser for Indigenous causes

POP Montreal and Suoni Per Il Popolo have teamed up to organize a virtual concert fundraiser in support of Indigenous causes.

The event named Poésie de la Résistance will feature poetry by Innu writer Natasha Kanapé Fontaine and musical accompaniment by Patrick Watson.

In a written statement, organizers say the event was inspired by “recent episodes of violence in the Parc de la Vérendrye and in Nova Scotia against members of the First Nations, and a month after the death of Joyce Echaquan under racist insults against her, depriving her of her dignity.”

Funds raised will benefit the Moose Moratorium and for the lost and stolen equipment of Mik’maq fishers of the Sipekne’katik First Nation in Nova Scotia.

The concert will be broadcast live from La Sala Rossa on November 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.
