Montreal-based trans rapper, Backxwash has put out the official video for “Spells”, the third track off her first full album, God Has Nothing to Do with This Leave Him Out of It.
The eccentric video which adopts a black and white aesthetic includes a mix of silhouette shots and close-ups of Backxwash’s bloodied face.
Backxwash made waves earlier this year after winning the 2020 Polaris Music Prize for God Has Nothing to Do with This Leave Him Out of It. The recognition made her the first transgender woman to win a Polaris since the start of the awards in 2006.
